Yes, fellow Alaska Fly Fishers (AFF) members, the first general membership meeting has been scheduled and will be held as noted above.
To start the general membership meeting off, we have asked Robert Rima and Evan Smith from Kenai River Drifters Lodge to talk about the last few years, why going out with a guide is helpful, and other interesting information that he and his guides are willing to share with AFF.
As Charlie and I have been noting in our “President Hook” AFF has been hit hard during the last two years. The lack of meetings was a direct result of the pandemic. Other issues, such as board members leaving really did not have anything to do with the pandemic. Randy Gunitu has had to step back from the Vice-President position due to family issues. Bob Bechtold has stepped away as the Ghillie due to additional demands. In addition, Steve Lambert has stepped away as AFF’s merchandise coordinator. AFF is looking for volunteers to fill the above positions.
So, without a ghillie and a merchandise coordinator, there will not be a raffle or club merchandise available for purchase during the upcoming October meeting. Thanks to the donations provided by Pudge Kleinkauf, there is enough flies to bring back the fly exchange. We are offering a ticket for every three flies that you bring to the meeting. The winning ticket holder will be able to pick a package of six flies. I am hopeful that I will be able to bring back the article on what flies I and other AFF members are using.
Charlie and I have also agreed thanks to the interest in some of the items that AFF purchased from Pudge, we are going to offer a Ross Reel CLA 1.5 with two extra spools with 5-wt fly lines on each spool. We estimate the cost of the reel and two extra spools to be close to $320. We will be selling $1 per ticket or six tickets for $5. The drawing will be held at the end of the meeting.
Please remember, the meeting will be starting at 5:30 pm. We will have to be out of the building by 8:30 pm.
